Austerity measure: Govt puts Padma, Meghna divisions proposal on hold

The government has put on hold a proposal to form two new divisions named Padma and Meghna for the current fiscal year.

The decision comes following a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR) at the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Sunday.

Talking about the issue, Law Minister Anisul Huq said that the government has taken a financial austerity policy. If two more divisions were formed, it would have to spend a lot. So, the decision has been taken to put the proposal on hold for now.
