PM Sheikh Hasina’s visit to be rescheduled

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Japan, scheduled from November 29 to December 1, will be rescheduled to a later date.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam on Thursday disclosed this after a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart State Minister for Foreign Affairs TAKEI Shunsuke on the sideline of the Indian Ocean Rim Association ministerial conference at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka.

He said a new date for the Prime Minister’s visit will be announced soon.

“In diplomacy, many things happen. We are yet to officially announce the date but there was a date that you know and that has been changed. It will happen soon and we will inform it later on,” Shahriar Alam said.

He said he briefed the visiting Japanese state minister about the deteriorating law and order situation in Myanmar and sought greater support from Japan on Rohingya repatriation.

Shahriar Alam also said the Japanese Economic Zone in Araihazar will be inaugurated soon.

Besides, the Japanese state minister said they would support a new power plant in Matarbari where an earlier plan for a coal-based power plant was cancelled.
