Monkey executed in people’s court for ‘killing’ girl in Moulvibazar

She was rushed to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her ‘serious injuries’ later.Moreover, several other people were attacked by the monkey. Panic gripped the local people following the recurrence of attacks by the animal.

Later, local people went to forest department authorities to get rid of the sufferings, done by the monkey.

No meaningful solution was offered to the locals when chairman of Dakshinbhag (North) Union Parishad Enam Uddin drew the attention of forest department’s officials seeking help in this regard at a meeting of the upazila law and order committee.

Range officer of forest department office at the district Enamul Haque allegedly ordered the locals to kill the monkey if they could.

Later, a group of local people at Dakshinbhag area caught the animal by giving the monkey food mixed with sleeping pills on Tuesday morning.

At one stage, agitating people set up a Gano Adalat (People’s court) and handed down death penalty to the monkey.Later, they killed the monkey in the same afternoon.
