SCC announces Tk 789.38 crore budget for 2019-20 FY

Sylhet Office : Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury on Sunday announced city budget of Tk 789.38 crore for 2019-20 fiscal year.
The budget, which is larger by Tk 40.7 crore than the budget of past fiscal year, was announced at a crowded press conference in a city hotel in the afternoon.
No new tax was imposed and tax rates were kept unchanged.
Ariful Haque claimed in his budgetary speech that they had tried their best to prepare a realistic budget keeping balance between the expenditure and the heads of income of the corporation.
Mentioning a positive trend in paying government revenues, including holding tax, had grown among the city dwellers in recent years, Arif said he would be succeeded in achieving the development goals and providing better services to the citizens.
‘The city corporation will earn more than Tk 79.42 crore from its own resources in the present fiscal year, if the residents pay taxes of holdings and other amenities regularly,’ he said.
According to the budget, Tk 44.08 crore will come from the holding taxes, Tk 8.5 crore from transfer fees of permanent wealth, Tk 6.5 crore from fees of trade licence issuance and renewal, Tk 6.3 crore from charges of drinking water supply and connection of the water supply lines.
Besides, Tk 20 core will come from the government’s annual development projects, Tk 10 crore from its special grants, Tk 427 crore will come from the allocations for proposed infrastructural development projects including Bangabandhu Multiplan Complex at Laldighirpar, renovation of Central Bus Terminal, sanitary land field construction for waste management at Lalmatia and protection of 11 major canals projects in the city, the mayor said.
The mayor also informed about his efforts of initiating a number of projects including city bus service, separate bus service for women, surface water treatment plant, multi-storey city maternity ward and diagnostic centre at Kumarpara and foot bridges at four separate places, including in front of MC College, Madina Market Point, Mendibag crossing and Humayun Rashid Square, in the city for providing its residents with better services.
Apart from the journalists, professionals and the SCC ward councillors and officials, including its chief executive officer Bidhayak Roy Chowdhury and chief executive engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, attended the programme.
