Cyclone ‘Fani’: Water transport services on all routes suspended
The measure was taken following inclement weather due to cyclonic storm Fani that is likely to hit the coastal belts of Bangladesh on Friday.
“The BIWTA has suspended the plying of all sorts of vessels and asked all to remain in safe shelter until further notice,” said BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mobarak Hossain Mazumder.
Moreover, the weekly holiday of all officials and employees of the BIWTA has been cancelled to tackle the imminent natural disaster, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the signal at Mongla and Payra ports have been raised to danger level 7. Maritime ports in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been asked to hoist danger signal number six and four respectively, according to a Met office bulletin.
