Meghna boat capsize: Female Ansar member’s body recovered, two still missing

The members of Coast Guard have recovered the body of the female Ansar member, who went missing after a trawler capsized in the Meghna River with 19 election officials during a storm at Char Hogla in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj on Sunday evening, from Ismanirchar area in the river on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Rita Akhter, 35.

Coast Guard’s Pagla station commander sub Lt M Atik said a team of coast guard recovered the body from the river around 8 am this morning.

Presiding Officer Burhan Uddin, 38, also an official of UCB Bank, and Md Selim, 40, assistant town sub-inspector of Narayanganj Traffic Police, are still missing, according to the Coast Guard official.

The trawler, carrying the 19 people and election materials for the 4th phase of upazila elections and heading towards Sonargaon upazila from Char Kishorganj, sank in the river around 6 pm during storm.
