Submit building safety docs, Mayor gives 10-day ultimatum
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has asked the owners to submit documents and clearance certificates over safety measures of their buildings by 10 days.
“The city corporation will soon issue a notice asking the building owners to submit fire safety and building safety clearance certificates by 10 days,” said the DNCC mayor while talking to reporters after visiting the affected FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani on Friday morning.
The mayor also warned that the authorities would take necessary legal steps against those who fail to comply with the notice by the deadline.
A total of 25 people were killed and around 100 others injured in a deadly fire incident that took place at FR Tower situated at the capital’s Banani commercial area.
The fire originated on the 6th floor of the building around 1 pm and spread quickly to other floors, trapping several hundred people inside it.
A total of 21 firefighting units with the help of Armed and Air Forces doused the flames around 7 pm.
However, the reason behind the fire yet to be known.
