Banani Fire: Chopper used in rescue mission
The fire-fighting units have been using helicopters to airlift the people trapped on the rooftop of the FR Tower in the capital’s Banani.
Besides, the firefighters entered the building using crane ladders. The rescue mission began soon after the building caught fire around 3pm on Thursday.
However, the rescue operation became difficult for the firefighters because of heavy smoke inside the building.
Most of the people rescued have been severely affected by smoke. Most of them have been sent to Kurmitola General Hospital near Dhaka airport for treatment.
Anxious family members of the people who are in the building have gathered around the building, where the blaze is still raging on some of the floors.
A total of seven deaths have been confirmed in the deadly fire that broke out at the FR Tower around 1 pm.
Around 4:45pm, fire fighters have been able to go up to the sixth floor to douse the fire and evacuate people trapped inside.
A total of 21 units of Fire Service and Civil Defence have been working to douse the blaze, according to Dhaka Fire Service Central Control Room.
Members of the armed forces are also on the ground working with the fire fighters.
