Sylhet Office : A university student was killed after he was allegedly pushed out of a running bus by its helper following an altercation over fare.
The incident took place on Sylhet-Mymenshingh Highway in Moulvibazar on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Wasim Abbas, 21, son of Abu Zaher Mahbub, and a masters student of Sylhet Agricultural University’s Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering department.
According to police, Wasim and his friends were returning to the university by a ‘Udar Paribahan’ bus around 6 pm when the students locked into an altercation with the bus driver and his helper over fare.
At one stage the helper pushed Wasim out of the bus and the vehicle ran him over, leaving him severely injured, police said citing the victim’s friend.
He was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Police seized the bus from Begumganj area of Osmaninagar upazila in the district but the driver and the helper managed to flee.
Meanwhile, SAU students gathered at Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar to stage demonstration against the incident.
