DUCSU polls: Voting delayed by one-hour in Rokeya Hall

Voting in the Dhaka University’s Rokeya Hall students’ union has started over an hour later than the scheduled time following a dispute over ballot boxes between students and the election officials.

The authorities have announced that the voting to the hall union will continue till 3 pm instead of 2 pm to cover the one hour delay.

Polls at Dhaka University’s 18 halls were to open at 8 am.

Rokeya Hall has a total of 3,716 voters.

“The students demanded that empty ballot boxes be shown and sealed in front of them before the start of voting, but were ignored by the returning officer,” said leftist student panel general secretary candidate Monira Dilshad while talking to reporters.

She added that the polling officials did not want to seal the ballot boxes. At one stage, the students compelled the officials to seal the boxes.
