Probe committee formed over Biman ‘hijacking’
Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry on Monday formed a probe committee to investigate the ‘plane hijacking’ incident at Chattogram airport.
A press release issued from the ministry confirmed the matter.
Additional Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Md Mokabbir Hossain is the head of the five-member probe body.
The other members of the committee are- joint secretary Zanendra Nath Sarker, Director (Flight Safety & Regulations)of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Wing Commander Chy M Zia UlKabir, director (planning) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Air Commodore (rtd) Mahbub Jahan Khan, and senior security consultant of CAAB group captain (rtd) MdAlamgir.
The committee was formed under direct orders from state minister for civil aviation and tourism Md Mahbub Ali.
A passenger on the Biman flight to Dubai via Chattogram (BG 147) tried to hijack the plane on Sunday evening. The aircraft managed to make an emergency landing at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.
The airport was shut for hours during the incident which led to the suspect’s death in army operation.
The hijacker, a youth named Mahadi, was wielding a pistol. However, all the 148 passengers and cabin crew members were safely evacuated.
