Chawkbazar fire: National mourning today

The nation is holding a one-day national mourning for the victims of devastating Chawkbazar fire that claimed 67 lives.

The government has declared a one-day state mourning on Monday in memory of the Chawkbazar fire victims.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette on Sunday in this regard.

The gazette asked all government, semi-government, non-government and autonomous organisations to keep the national flag at half mast.

Meanwhile, the parliament on Sunday unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the deaths.

Speaker of the parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the motion in the House and prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed souls.

She also expressed her sympathy to the bereaved family members of the victims and wished early recovery to the injured.

Ar least 67 people were killed and 41 others injured in the devastating fire that raged through several buildings at Churihatta of Chawkbazar on Wednesday night.
