Labour picks Sumon as local candidate

The Banff and Buchan Labour Party has selected Sumon Hoque as its candidate for this May’s General Election during a meeting in Banff recently.

A graduate from University of Aberdeen, Sumon has been working in the world of business for over 10 years – including, most recently, for an independent television production company.

Commenting on his selection, Sumon said: “I hope to use the next three months to show people across Banff and Buchan that by electing a Scottish Labour Member of Parliament their support will not be taken for granted and that the issues that matter for this area are highlighted and fought for and not ignored. I will always put this area first.

“I believe the only way to make a permanent long term positive difference to people that need our help the most is by getting involved in politics.

“Over the last five years I have been involved in various community work initiatives in Aberdeen serving the less fortunate in society.

“I’m now stepping up to the plate as the Scottish Labour Party’s candidate. In the face of a large fall in the price of oil the need to push economic development and regeneration across our area is now more important than ever but I also aim to highlight the need for more affordable housing and to fight to maintain a free NHS for all.”

Local Party Chairman Peter Hawkey added: “Sumon brings experience, youth, dedication and enthusiasm to the battle ahead. The best chance of getting rid of David Cameron is by electing a Labour Government. The local Labour Party and Sumon look forward to taking their message to the streets and doorsteps of Banff and Buchan.”
