Verdict on Moulvibazar war criminals any day

The International Crimes Tribunal-1, on any day, will deliver the verdict in a case filed against five Moulvibazar men for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam kept the verdict waiting after it completed hearing from both the prosecution and the defense cousel on Monday.

Yunus Ahmed, 71, Ujer Ahmed Chowdhury, 63, Samsul Hossain Tarafder, 65, Nesar Ali, 75, and Mobarak Mia, 66, are the five accused for war crimes in the case.

Of them, Yunus and Ujer are now in jail while the rest are absconding.

Prosecution sought capital punishment for all the accused claiming that they have substantial proof of their crimes, while the defense sought acquittal of the accused.

The prosecution pressed the charges against them on May 26 last year and the tribunal framed charges on December 8 the same year.
