Police on Wednesday (November 08) recorded a case over the death of six minor madrasa students at the Tuesday’s tragic stone quarry landslide at Lovachhara under Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kanaighat police station Razib Mandal filed the case with the police station mentioning names of eight people.
Ahmed Suleman, a former chairman of East Lakshmiprasad union of Kanaighat upazila, is among the accused in the case.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kanaighat police station Abdul Ahad confirmed the matter to the Journalist. He said that the case was recorded under Section 304 of the penal code. However, there is no arrest in the case, said the OC.
The six minor students were killed at the stone quarry at Banglatila of the area following the landslide while they were extracting stones on Tuesday (November 07).
The six victim madrasa students are- Nahid, 12, and his brother Shakil, 13, sons of Almas Uddin, Maruf, 13, son of Mosabbir Ali, and his cousin Jakir, 12, son of Yunus Ali, Abdul Quadir, son of Ana Mia, and Sundor Ali, son of Abdul Bari.
All the deceased hailed from Kandola village under East Lakshmiprasad union of Kanaighat upazila. They were students of Daukergul Nesarul Quaran Hafizia Madrasa.
Two probe committees were formed over the death of the students. Sylhet district administration and police administration formed the probe bodies separately within hours of the tragic incident.
The committees were asked to submit their probe reports within three days.
