4 die, 5 lakh marooned in Jamalpur flood water

The overall flood situation in Jamalpur district has become terrible as five lakh people have been marooned in the floodwater.

At least four people, three of them are teenagers, died in the floodwater on Wednesday (August 16).

Out of the seven upazilas in the district, five upazilas completely and two partly went under floodwater. A total of 48 unions out of 68 have been affected by flood.

In some upazilas, internal road communications with the district town and the capital city have almost stopped.

Even boat communication has been difficult in some places due to strong water wave.

The Jamuna River was flowing 133 centimeters above the danger mark at Bahadurabad point on Wednesday.

People have taken refuge in high embankments, different educational institutions. Some are even suffering under open sky.

Relief in proportion to need is very scant. Refugees are in urgent need of relief.

Alhaj Faridul Haq Khan Dulal, local MP of Islampur, attracted attention of Prime Minister as well as Minister of Food and Relief in this regard.
