Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzman Mia said that terrorists shot DB AC Rahul as he was operating a drive to thwart terrorism.
The DMP chief made the remark while visiting the bullet-hit Detective Branch (DB) officer at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), on Saturday night (August 12).
“A drive was carrying out led by DB Senior Assistant Commissioner Rahul Patwary at Jurain area (in Dhaka) to nab the terrorists. Rahul was wounded by gunshots fired by the terrorists”, he said.
However, he was being given necessary treatment and his physicians said that Rahul’s condition is out of danger, added Asaduzzaman.
On detective information, a team of DB police conducted the drive to nab terrorists on Saturday night.
The terrorists equipped with arms were cordoned-off by the police officers, at the spot in Jurain.
At one stage, a terrorist fled away after shooting AC Rahul to the left side of his womb, narrated the DMP boss.
He further said that anti-terrorism drives will remain undeterred in Jurain.
However, total three people including AC Rahul suffered gunshot wounds in the drive at a place behind Shyampur-Jurain Fire Service Office, at around 09:00pm.
The two others were identified as—Mridul alias Billal, 22, a detective source, and Selim, 30, a pedestrian.
Of the three, two were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment whereas Selim, the pedestrian, was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital.
Selim received gunshot to his back.
Afterwards, he was taken to DMCH at around 10:30pm.
However, Shyampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Abdur Razzaq acknowledged the incident and claimed that he wasn’t aware about the drive in Jurain.
