Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the physicians who successfully conducted the surgery of Muktamoni, a 12-year-old girl from Satkhira with a vascular tumor ‘Hemangioma’.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Burn Unit Coordinator Dr Samonto Lal said that they received a thanksgiving telephone call from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Saturday noon (August 12).
Earlier, at around 08:45am, Muktamoni laid for her second surgery at the Operation Theatre (OT) at storey-2 of DMCH which continued till 11:00am, where a tumor weighing almost 3kg was removed from her right arm.
Afterwards, she was kept at the Intensive Care Unit (UNIT) at the hospital.
“The Prime Minister asked me: Samonto, is it possible to save the hand of the girl? Then I said her: You do pray; we will give our best efforts”, said Dr Samonto Lal.
However, a tumor developed in Muktamoni’s right arm but it didn’t grow much till she stepped into six years. Afterwards, it started to swell and took the shape of a bolster.
As the problem went more troublesome, Muktamoni was admitted to DMCH Burn unit on July 11.
The Prime Minister then took responsibility for Muktamoni’s treatment.
However, Samonto Lal added that Muktamoni’s condition isn’t out of danger and she requires further surgery.
