2 killed in Habiganj clash

Two people were killed and more than hundred others injured in a clash among two rival groups over changing the committee and imam of a mosque in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj.

The clash erupted out in the morning Saturday (August 12).

The deceased were identified as—Abdul Kabir, an expatriate in England, and M Matin Mia.

Bahubal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) M Mazharul Islam told Banglanews that villagers were divided into two groups over forming the committee of Mugolkandi Jam-e Mosque and appointing the imam for it, in Satkapon union under the upazila.

Following the dispute, villagers of the both groups engaged in a clash using local weapons, leaving Kabir and Matin dead on the spot.

However, police have been employed fearing further violence, added the OC.
