Jamil Akhter, 48, a passenger with customs house Preetive Team has arrested 25 kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
He was arrested on Saturday night last Saturday. According to customs house sources, Jamil kept hiding 250 gold bars in the brackets below his body. The total weight of these bars is 25 kg. The estimated price is 12.5 million taka
Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House Ahsanul Kabir said that Jamil had gone to Singapore airport from Singapore Airlines flight 446 on Saturday night at around 10:30 pm at Shahjalal International Airport. He was interrogated for suspicious activity. Gold bars are available after the search. He traveled abroad 13 times in the last six months.
Ahsanul Kabir also said that the process of handing over Jamil to the police station is going on.
Customs House says it is the largest gold shipments this year. In August last year, 23 kg gold was seized from the wheelchair passenger Ataul Mujib.
