Infrastructural development on the tourist spots in Sylhet with a view to creating safe and harassment-free atmosphere should be ensured for the tourists from home and abroad. Speakers at a workshop in Sylhet have stressed for that.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General), Sylhet Md Azam Khan chaired the event at the divisional Commissioner’s office while divisional commissioner Nazman Ara Khanum spoke as the chief guest.
She said Tourism industry could help much in the country’s socio-economic development. Besides, it could generate employment opportunities for educated youths in big number, she said yet we could improve the internal tourism before looking for the tourists from abroad. The government through different initiatives has been working for improving the sector as a whole.
However, ensuring adequate security for the tourists from both home and abroad is the most important issue, she noted adding, “We should do it first. Sylhet region also has a good number of tourist sites, which attract a good number of people almost everyday. There are ample scopes for developing those. We would have to improve the infrastructures as well as other facilities including security there.”
Director of Environment Salah Uddin Chowdhury, director, Family Planning, Md Qutub Uddin and Additional Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police SM Rokon Uddin also addressed.
