Blogger Ananta Bijoy Das was recalled on his second death anniversary by Sylhet Gano Jagoron Mancho last Friday (May 12).
Speakers, recalling Ananta, said that justice is being delayed and the judicial system is getting denied. That’s why, extremism is expanding throughout the country.
Ananta Bijoy Das was an activist for the Gano Jagoron Mancho movement in Sylhet that is campaigning for a secular Bangladesh. He was hacked to death in an attack by four men wielding machetes on 12 May, 2015.
A procession was started from Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar in Friday afternoon demanding punishment for Ananta’s murderers. Lighting up candles beside hundreds of implanted photo placards of Ananta, a gathering was held in front of Shaheed Minar in the evening.

Arash Ali, Badal Kaur, Freedom fighter Bhabatosh Roy Barman Rana, Journalist Al Aazad, Sommilito Natya Parishad president Mishfaque Ahmed Mishu, ex-president Manir Helal, Ananta’s brother-in-law Bijoy Shekhar, Socialist Party coordinator Abu Jafar, Communist Party secretary Anwar Hossein, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon Sylhet secretary Abdul Karim Kim, Natya Parishad secretary Rajat Kanti Gupta, Udichi secretary Dr. Abhijeet Roy Joy, Jagannathpur upazila Vice Chairman Muktadir Ahmed Mukta delivered speech among others.
Before that, various organizations paid wreath homage before Ananta’s monument at Subid Bazar where he was murdered.
