Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said a team of the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) and a bomb disposal team are to join the anti-militant operation at two Mouvlibazar militant dens.
“Members of the law enforcement agencies have encircled two houses, being used as militant hideouts at Moulvibazar, within hours after the end of ‘Operation Twilight’ in neighbouring district of Sylhet, he told newsmen at his ministry office.
Around 10 suspected militants including the top ones may be hiding inside the two houses, already been cordoned off by the security forces since the early hours today, he also said adding, “We got information about the militant hideouts in Moulvibazar and Police rushed there on that basis.”
Replying to a query, Khan said three to four militants may be living inside a militant den in the town, while more militants might be inside another house under Khalilpur union.
“They (Security force) came under fire while trying to enter the houses, now sealed off. SWAT and bomb disposal units are on their way, after which the next phase of the operation will begin,” he said.
Replying to another query whether army should be engaged in this operation like in Sylhet, the minister said, “They will be called in if needed.”
