The foundation stone laying of Stepny Shahjalal Mosque in Sandy Park recently took place. Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council John Biggs and Imam of East London Mosque Sheikh Abdul Kayum were present at the ceremony with many others.
John Biggs said that council will always co-operate in the development of the mosque.
Chairman Dr Mohammod Ali mentioned that members of the community always extended their helping hands in the development of the mosque. He also urged for further co-operation from the members of the community. Once built, around three hundred people can pray at the mosque together. The mosque committee will also run Arabic classes for children and more educational activities for women and elderly people of the community.
