East London based the Shree Shree Loknath Bhakta Porishad UK celebrated Durga Puja festival this year from 8th October to 11th October, daily 11am to 11pm at Dames Road, Forest Gate, East London. In addition, this year the Porishad also published Puja Magazine 2016.
Every day devotees flocked to Puja and took part in pushpanjali, Prasad bitaran, Aroti and cultural programme.
Stephen Timms MP, Mayor of Luton Cllr Tahir Khan & Tower Hamlets Speaker Cllr Khales Uddin Ahmed attended on Maha Ashtami, Aura Freeman, South Asia Team, Amnesty International attended on Maha Nabami and Mayor of Brent Cllr Parvez Ahmed attended on Bijoya Dashami. They were presented with Puja magazine and Prasad by Surnjit Gupta, President, Shree Shree Loknath Bhakta Porishad UK, Secretary Ajit Lal Das and other members of Loknath Bhakta Porishad. Guests offered greetings to devotees stressing the importance of diverse multi-faith society of London.
Durga Puja is the biggest festival and most significant socio-cultural event in the Bengali Hindu society. Durga Puja festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura. Durga Puja epitomises the victory of Good over Evil. In Bangladesh Durga is worshipped as Durgotinashini, the destroyer of evil and the protector of her devotees.
