In announcing the scheme, the Minister for Press said while in post in London he realised the important role being played by the UK based Bengali journalists in upholding Bengali language in a non-Bengali speaking country. This programme is in appreciation of the good work journalists are undertaking to promote Bangladesh positively abroad. Under the scheme two journalists will be taken to Bangladesh annually in December to visit media houses including the National Press Club and meet the Prime Minister & other government officials. The project involves the Press Wing at London’s High Commission, Bangladesh’s Information Ministry, IPO, PID, National Press Club and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangtha (BSS).

The main sponsor of the programme is the London based IPE Group. IPE’s Managing Director young entrepreneur Adnan Imam was also present at the press briefing. The programme has the blessings of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu and Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed.
