Federation of Community organisations UK condemned the derogatory speech of Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury insulting education and culture of UK living expats of sylhet area. The speakers also said that Abdul Gaffar’s speech will cause conflict in the community and against the British value and will create division amongst the community. The protest meeting was held in Water Lily Auditorium in East Lodnon on 4th January. The organisation also called to boycott Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury locally and internationally y for his derogatory and racist comments toward the Sylheti community in the UK.
The speakers announced that a signature collecting campaign has started headlining ‘Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury is harmful for civil society, his speech and comments are harmful for the society and contradictory with the British Value.’
Co-ordinator of Federation of Community organisations UK and Chairperson of Greater Sylhet Council UK Nurul Islam Mahbub presided over the protest meeting. Joint Secretary of GSC Dr M Mujibur Rahman and community leader Najmul Hossain jointly conducted it.

On the other hand, an organisation called ‘Amra Sylhetbashi’ organised a meeting in a restaurant in Brick Lane to aware the general people that a group of people and organisations are trying to misinterpret a recent speech of renowned coulumnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury. The speakers in that meeting told that this group of people are trying to colour a part of his speech, misinterpreting and trying to create division in the community which is not acceptable at all. They also said Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury actually said that he received help and co-operation from the people of Sylhet area on numerous occasions and played a huge part in establishing and retaining Bengali culture in the UK. Speaker who addressed the audience in the meeting included Convenor of the organisation Nuruddin Ahmed, Matiar Chowdhury, Ishaque Kajol, Syed Anas Pasha, Jewel Raj, Jamal Khan, Ansar Ahmed Ullah, Shah Mostafijur Rahman Belal and others.
