Kolkata Test: Bangladesh tumble for 106

 Kolkata Test

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque won the toss and opted to bat first in the first pink-ball Test of the subcontinent. But Bangladeshi batsmen failed to prove their mettle once again against the world-class pace-bowling attack of the hosts.

Imrul Kayes (4) was the first batsman to get dismissed. He was removed by Ishant Sharma. The Indian pacer bagged another four wickets and ended up taking five wickets conceding 22 runs in 12 overs.

The other two pacers – Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav- also tore through the faltering batting line-up of the tourists. Umesh bagged three wickets conceding 22 runs and Shami scalped two wickets for 36 runs.

Three of Bangladesh’s top five batsmen put up disappointing shows. Mominul, Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim failed to score any run.

While the main batsmen were disappointing, Shadman Islam and Liton Das showed some teeth. But Shadman failed to capitalise his good start falling for 29 off 52 with five fours while Liton retired hurt on 24 after sustaining a blow on his head off Shami.

Liton’s blow came as an opportunity for Mehidy Hasan Miraz as he has been made Bangladesh’s first concussion replacement, but the right-handed all-rounder posted only 8 off 13 with two fours.

Mehidy, however, will not be allowed to bowl since the concussion substitute should be a ‘like-to-like player’. So as the substitute of a wicket-keeper batsman, Mehidy will not be allowed to bowl.
