High Court issues stay on upcoming 9th wage board gazette

The HC Bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice Mohammad Ali the stay order after hearing a writ petition filed by the Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) challenging the legality of the formation of the 9th Wage Board.

Advocate Usuf Ali administered the hearing on behalf of the hearing. Deputy Attorney General Advocate Usuf Ali was on behalf of the state during the hearing.Earlier in May, journalists and employees of different media houses staged demonstration to press home their 14-point demands including gazette notification of the ninth wage board before the Eid-ul-Fitr.

Later on June 16, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the 9th Wage Board Award will be announced soon.

However, Noab termed the new wage board award unrealistic and said implementing it would be difficult as the industry was going through a hard time.
