Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said its is disheartening that chemical warehouses have not been removed from Old Dhaka.
She also advised everyone to help regarding the matter.
The premier said this after visiting the survivors of the Chawkbazar fire incident at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.
“I urge everyone to provide assistance,” she stated.
A national mourning event would be announced following the horrific fire at Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar, she added.
She arrived at the burn unit of DMCH around 10am and enquired about the condition of the injured victims and treatment.
PM Hasina also commended the doctors for their support in this crisis.
She talked to the journalists outside DMCH before leaving around 11:00am.
“It is a tragedy, I give my condolences to the bereaved. We will declare a national mourning for the victims.” She said.
The premier promised all financial support for the treatment of the injured and compensation for the victims’ families.
At least 81 people were killed and 41 others injured in a devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other adjacent buildings in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night.
