Sunamganj Correspondent : The High Court Division Wednesday granted a six-week bail to Tara Mia, a physically-challenged man, in a case filed for ‘attacking’ police in Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj on December 28 last.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rais Uddin and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain also granted bail to 49 other people in the case for the same period.
Barrister Md Abidul Haque, along with Advocate Saiful Islam stood for the accused in the case.
The court asked them to surrender before the Sunamganj lower court on expiry of their bail.
The lawyers also said Tara Mia who is a beggar and unable to move his right arm which is deformed was accused of assaulting police.
Sub-inspector of Jamalganj Police Station Tariqul Islam filed the case under the Special Powers Act accusing 52 named and 70 unnamed people of attacking police on December 28, just two days before the December-30 election.
According to the case statement, police conducted a drive in Mallikpur Bazar area of Jamalganj upazila on information that a group of people was planning to commit acts of sabotage at a polling station there.
As the law enforcers reached the spot, the accused launched an attack on them, it said.
