According to the prosecution, Tonni, daughter of Bimol Roy, went missing after she set out from her house for a computer training centre on September 17, 2016.
Later, victim’s father filed a general diary with Nabiganj Police Station.
Police recovered the college girl’s body from the Barak River in the suburb of the upazila headquarters, three days after she had gone missing.
After investigation, police arrested Ranu Roy from Brahmanbaria district and produced him before the court when he confessed to strangling Tonni after rape.
The case was later shifted to the tribunal for speedy trial.
After examining the records and 20 witnesses, Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 Judge Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
