Sylhet Office : A leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was hacked and shot to death in Sylhet Saturday evening as two groups of the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party clashed when they went to congratulate newly elected city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury at his house.
The deceased was identified as former Sylhet city Chhatra Dal assistant publicity secretary Faizur Rahman Raju.
Two other Chhatra Dal leaders were also injured in the clash.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Abdul Wahab confirmed the news.
He said that police suspected that it was an internal conflict of Chhatra Dal.
Witnesses said that two groups of Chhatra Dal leaders and activists clashed soon after they had gone to congratulate newly elected city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury at his house at Kumarpara at about 9:30pm.
The three were hacked while Faizur also sustained bullet injury in front of Ariful’s house.
They were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, when duty doctors declared Faizur dead, said the hospital’s assistant director Deva Pada Roy.
