Locals said the Hakaluki, Kauadighi and Hail haors started to swell since Thursday as the water of the two rivers fell into those, inundating many villages in Rajnagar, Kulaura and Barolekha upazilas.

People remained trapped in water while schools and business establishments closed in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, water receded from many more areas in Sadar, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Kamalganj upazilas as the water level of the two rivers decreased further.
