Moulvibazar Correspondent : Although the flood situation in many areas along the Manu and Dhalai rivers in the district has improved, vast areas around different haors were affected by flood newly.
Locals said the Hakaluki, Kauadighi and Hail haors started to swell since Thursday as the water of the two rivers fell into those, inundating many villages in Rajnagar, Kulaura and Barolekha upazilas.
People remained trapped in water while schools and business establishments closed in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, water receded from many more areas in Sadar, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Kamalganj upazilas as the water level of the two rivers decreased further.
Meanwhile, the flood situation improved slightly in Jakiganj upazila of Sylhet.
However, the affected people were suffering greatly for lack of shelter, food and pure drinking water.
As many houses went under water and many others damaged by flood, hundreds of people were living under the open sky.
Many waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and skin diseases have attacked many people in the affected areas.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Numeri Jaman said around 231 tonnes of rice and Tk 3 lakh were distributed among the flood-affected people in the district.
Jakiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bijon Kumar Singh said 37 tonnes of rice were allocated for the affected people in the upazila.
