Moulvibazar Correspondent : The overall flood situation of the district has improved as the water level of the Manu and Dhalai rivers decreased further on Monday.
However, new areas in the district town were submerged as water entered those through the beach of the town protection dam along the Manu river.
The flood caused by heavy downpour in Indian Tripura state left around 2 lakh people in Sadar, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Kamalganj upazilas marooned since June 13, killing eight people.
Flood control dams along the two rivers broke down at 18 points in the four upazilas due to heavy pressure of water, inundating 30 unions and two municipalities.
The flood situation started improving on Sunday and water receded from many more affected areas on Monday.
However, water entered the district town through a breach in the town protection dam at Boroikona along the Manu river.
Water started to enter the town from 12:30 am when a 30-foot portion of the dam broke down due to heavy pressure of water.
