Ansar Ahmed Ullah : On 29 March Mohila Ongon Association organised International Women’s Day event in a community hall in the East End of London. The main focus of the event was to celebrate 100 years of women’s right to vote.
Chaired by Ferdous Ahmed and hosted by Syeda Chowdhury guests were Rushanara Ali MP, Tower Hamlets Speaker Sabina Akhtar, Dr Anwara Ali, Cllr Ayesha Chowdhury, activist Anjuman Ara Anju, Mulberry School liaison officer Sabina Khan & Ch i’s singer winner Ina Khan amongst others.
A short play was performed by Mohila Ongon members. This was the third year running of staging a play. Mohila Ongon always try to give a message to the community. The theme this year was “Change makers/breaking the barriers” and the drama emphasised how important it was to vote for your chosen candidate to serve the community. There was also fashion show, stalls, talks on health awareness, domestic violence and on healthy eating and workshops all attended by local women and housewives. In fact, over 200 local women were in attendance and participated in the activities. The event was in partnership with the Tower Hamlets Parents Centre.
