BD ready to help Nepal in rescue work, treatment, says PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday night said Bangladesh is ready to provide the Nepalese government with necessary assistance in the rescue operation and treatment of the victims of the US-Bangla Airlines aircraft crash at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

“Immediately after the plane crash, I talked to the Prime Minister of Nepal… I told the Prime Minister of Nepal that Bangladesh will always stand by it in the rescue work, treatment and whatever necessary,” she said in a video message.

Expressing her deep shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in the plane crash, Sheikh Hasina said a plane with doctors and necessary personnel has been kept ready for flying to Kathmandu. “Since the Nepal airport has not been opened yet, Bangladesh can’t send any team right now. We’ll do whatever is necessary.”

“Our doctors who are experts in this regard will help provide treatment to the injured through teleconference and videoconferencing if necessary,” she said adding that whenever Bangladesh gets scope, it will send the team and bring all bodies to the country, if possible.

She said the Nepalese army instantly started the rescue work as the spot is very close to the Nepalese army camp. Bangladesh ambassador to Nepal also rushed to the spot.

In Bangladesh, all including the chiefs of three forces, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division and officials of the PMO and the Foreign Ministry are continuously maintaining communication with Nepal to know what measures can be taken in this regard, the Prime Minister added.

She said it will be very difficult to identify many deceased as they were burnt. “When the airport is opened, our team will go there…. we’re ready to take all necessary measures, including treatment, for those who are still alive.”

The Prime Minister said she informed the Nepalese government that Bangladesh is ready to provide all necessary assistance in this regard.
