An activist of Juba League, youth front of ruling Awami League, was stabbed to death in Sylhet on early Sunday following a quarrel to establish dominance in the area. The deceased was identified as Afsar Hossain, 18, son of Enam Uddin of Ujan Meherpur village at Bhadeshwar union under Golapganj upazila in the district, police said. Local people said that Afsar locked in an altercation with several youths of Kadipur, a nearby village where an urs was underway, at around 1:00am over establishing dominance in the area. At one state of exchanging heated words, the youths stabbed on the chest of Afsar, leaving him critically injured, they said. When contacted, Golapganj police officer-in-charge Fazlul Haque Shibli told that the locals sent the victim to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital after recovering him from the spot, but he died on the way to the hospital. He said the body was taken later to the hospital morgue for postmortem examination. ‘A case will be filed after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s relatives,’ the police officer said in the evening, adding that their effort was going on to arrest the suspected killers.
