Great Martyr and International Mother Language day was observed Wednesday in Sylhet, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Language Martyrs, like elsewhere in the country. In order to express heartiest homage to Language Martyrs of 1952 Great Language Movement- Salam, Rafique, Barkat, Jabber together with unnamed martyrs, people from all walks of life gathered together on the foot hold of central Shahid Minar (Mausoleum) at Chowhatta in Sylhet City.
12-01 a.m Wednesday, Shahid Minar Implementation Council Leaders at first placed their floral wreath at the Shahid Minar. Thereafter, Leaders of Freedom Fighters (FFs) Command Council of District and Sylhet City, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Nazmanara Khanum, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet District, Police Super, District Council, Commandant RFF 10th APBN SP, Sylhet Press Club, Sylhet Shadar Upazila Parishad, Ansar VDP, Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI), Sylhet District and City Awami League, Sylhet District and City BNP, Sylhet Jaitya Party and other Socio-Political Organisations. The Daily Sylher Dak, The Uttarpurba, Bangladeh Photo Journalists’ Association, Television Journalists Union, Electronic Media Journalists’ Association, Sylhet District Taxes Bar Association placed their respective floral wreath on the foothold of the Shahid Minar. Besides, in order to pay homage to Language Martyrs, hundreds of people gathered together at Shahid Minar premises and continued placing floral wreaths.
