The British ruling party has nominated Dr Anwara Ali to run for the executive mayor election from Tower Hamlets, which is known as a Bangali populated area.
The announcement of the nomination was made on Tuesday night.
Through this announcement, Anwara is now the first Bangladeshi origin and female candidate from the party’s council to run for the executive mayor election, which will be held this year.
Anwara Ali has expressed her happiness and wished everyone’s support in the election.
A doctor by profession, Anwara Ali is a senior general practitioner (GP ) of Tower Hamlets. Recently she has been made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her contribution in medical sector in England.
Anwara Ali is from Sunampur village under Dhaka Dakkhin union of Sylhet’s Golapganj upazila. She is the wife of journalist and managing director of Channel i Europe Reza Ahmed Foysol Chowdhury.
