Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Haque today said, Tarique Rahman, son of Begum Khaleda Zia, is convicted in two cases, while four cases remained pending.
He said this in response to a question from treasury bench member Begum Fazilatun Nesa Bappy in parliament.
The minister said Tarique Rahman was convicted in two cases, Zia Orphanage Trust case and Money Laundering Act case, lodged by Cantonment Police Station.
The lower court, he said, acquitted Tarique Rahman from the money laundering case, but the appellate division of the High Court Division sentenced him seven years in jail and fined Taka 20 crore.
Anisul informed the House that Tarique was also sentenced 10 years in jail and fined Taka 2,10,71,643.80 in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
He, however, said Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Jubaida Rahman and mother-in-law Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu were accused in a case for amassing wealth illegally. Besides, two more cases are still pending against them.
