A Land Cruiser SUV accidentally slid off the pontoon at Paturia ferry ghat and fell into Padma River on Monday morning (Aug 14).
However, no one was injured in the incident.
SUV’s driver Asaduzzaman told that the accident happened as he went to buy ticket at the ferry ghat counter.
“I went to buy ferry ticket leaving the SUV on the pontoon no-3. The vehicle slid off to water due to heavy jerking of the pontoon caused by vehicle loading and unloading to the ferry. However, the passengers managed to get off the SUV safely.”
He further said that he was traveling to Faridpur from Dhaka with four passengers.
Paturia naval police station officer-in-charge (OC) Aminul Islam told that the SUV was parked at the edge of the pontoon and at one point slid off to water. However, the upper half of the vehicle did not go under water and was tangled with the pontoon. Later the vehicle was pulled up by a Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) tow truck.
