Fresh landslides apprehended for heavy rainfall

The water level in the rivers of north-central and north-eastern parts of the country is on rising trend due to downward pressures of upstream flows and heavy rainfall.

The water in some of the rivers was flowing above danger level on Sunday (August 12).

The water level of Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Dharla, Teesta, Surma, and Kushiara rivers were marked flowing above danger level in different points.

As a result, people are suffering in flood-affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Met office has predicted of heavy rainfall.

Met office said that water level of rivers will increase as rains are likely to continue for two more days.

Hafizur Rahman, Meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said that heavy to excessive rainfall is likely in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong and some places of Sylhet division from 10:00 am to the next 24 hours as monsoon wind is active over Bangladesh.

There is apprehension of landslides in hilly areas of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions due to heavy rainfall.

Sajjad Hossain, executive engineer of Flood Forecast and Warning Center, told that river’s water will increase for three more days because of heavy rains.
