Since his joining in the UK, HE Mr. Nazmul Quaunine, Bangladesh High Commissioner in London has initiated business promotion program in the UK and is trying to reach out both the mainstream UK businessmen and Bangladeshi diaspora. The program includes meeting the companies, visiting factories and highlighting Bangladesh, as a potential business destination. As part of this program, he along with Ms. Sharifa Khan, Commercial Counsellor visited Eurofoods Group, a UK-based food distribution company supplying ethnic food in Newport, Wales on 19 January 2017.
During the visit, Eurofoods showed the production facilities of their two factories in Newport, Wales and highlighted their on-going and future programs. The company was founded in 1993 by Shelim Hussain, its headquarters is based in Newport, Gwent, Wales, and has over 2,400 employees and he has already set up five fish and food processing plants in Bangladesh. The company has planned to expand it production facilities from current US$ 160 million to US$ 200 million by 2020. It intends to set up a food park and a mobile phone manufacturing factories in Bangladesh. HE High Commissioner assured the company to extend necessary support and cooperation for setting us their production plant in Bangladesh through providing a plot in the Hi-tech Park at Kaliakoir.
Eurofoods also invited a good number of local entrepreneurs to meet HE High Commissioner where the Excellency addressed them to invest in Bangladesh and take benefits of current development program of the government. He said that Eurofoods is a glorious example where the NRBs would learn how they may contribute to the employment generation and poverty alleviation in Bangladesh and at the same time could benefit economically from their business venture. He highlighted that Bangladesh is now a land of opportunity and the present government has undertaken massive infrastructure development program. The NRBs may gain from this as they have advantage over the foreign investors in terms of having knowledge about the geography, culture, infrastructure and workers.
HE High Commissioner is expected to continue this networking program in the upcoming days and will meet business people and investors for attracting and facilitating more investment in Bangladesh.
