State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan MP has said that the present government is a government who encourages education. The government is working to build up students as competent citizens of the country. He was speaking as Chief Guest at 15th Stipend Distribution Programme organized by Jagannathpur British Bangla Education Trust at Abdus Samad Azad Auditorium on Saturday 21st March.
The stipend distribution event was chaired by the Trust president Sajjadur Rahman and General Secretary Mollik Shakur Wadud conducted it. Guests who also addressed audience included Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury, former MP of Sylhet-2 constituency; Siddique Ahmed, Vice President, Awami League, Sunamganj district unit; Akmol Hussain, Chairman, Jagannathpur Upazila Parishad; Muktadir Ahmed Mukta, Vice Chairman, Jagannathpur Upazila Parishad; Md. Humayun Kabir, UNO of the Upazila; Ex-Municipality Mayor Abdul Monaf; Abdul Ahad, former President of the trust; Shamsul Alam, Director of Sylhet Overseas Centre; Upazila Awami League General Secretary Rejaul Karim Reju; Ataur Rahman Kamali, President of Upazila Secondary Teachers’Association; Moinul Islam Parvez, Vice President of Madrasah Teachers’ Association and others.
The State Minister said that those who opposed the liberation war in 1971 are being tried. It is certain that those who are throwing bombs will also be brought into book. We have made a list of them, he added.
Stating about the ‘anarchy’ created by oppositions through hartal and blockade, he urged all to make protection against it.
The organization distributed around 15 lakh taka as stipend among 400 students.
Earlier on that day at 11.00 AM, a free Medical Camp was inaugurated by the Chief Guest at Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex. About 80 patients were given fee treatment at the camp, said Foundation Director S I Azad Ali.
The medical camp event was presided over by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abdul Hakim and conducted by Dr. Sharmin Ara. Dr. Aminur Rahman Laskar, Colonel (Rtd) Dr. Shah Abidur Rahman, director of Sylhet Heart Foundation and others addressed the audience.
