The annual general meeting of West London Bangladesh Welfare Association UK was held in a restaurant in South Harrow on 22 February. The meeting was presided over by community leader Sheikh Yaor and conducted by Shohidul Islam.
In the beginning, the speakers focused on the importance of International Mother Language Day. In his speech, former councillor Selim Chowdhury said that people of the world will remember the sacrifice of Bangladeshi people who gave their lives for the recognition of their language. He has also urged to everyone to work together to establish Bengali as the official language of United Nations.
Other guests who addressed the audience included Shahan Chowdhury, Dr Rahim, Boshir Ahmed, M A Rab, Russel Ahmed, Abu Taher (Afjal), Tareq Ahmed, Russel Ahmod, Ibrahim Miah and others.
The second part followed the declaration of the new committee, where prominent caterers’ leader Abdul Quddus was declared as President, Shahan Chowdhury as Secretary and Abu Taher (Afjal) as Treasurer.
