Voluntary cultural organisation Shikor orgainsed a facilitation of freedom fighters and observance of victory day on 3rd January in Seminar hall of Billiar’s School of South Hall. The facilitation and observance were aimed at introducing the new generation of British Bangladeshis towards the history and culture of Bangladesh and its journey through freedom and liberation war.
At the beginning of the event Shikor leaders were introduced to the guests who attended the event. The next part of the event was presided over by Shikor President Piroj Hyat Khan and jointly conducted by General Secretary Ali Ahmed and Subarna Rahman. Local MP Birendra Sharma addressed the audience as Chief Guest while the Special Guest speakers were Labour Party MP candidate and Associate Professor of Kingston University Dr Rupa Haque, First Secretary of Bangladesh High Commission Saem Ahmed, Shikor Advisor MD Shahjahan, Vice President of Shikor Imam Uddin Suruj, Motiur Rahman, Co General Secretary Zakir Hossain, Organising Secretary Jashim Uddin Mirja, Cultural Secretary Monir Hossain Lenin, Publicity Secretary MD Yusuf, Finance Secretary Mofiz Ahmed, Alimullah Sentu, Babul Hossain, Kurshidur Rahman, Manik Lavlu, Habib, Ripon and others.
Honorary crests were given to six freedom fighters in the meeting.
Among the performers who performed in the event were Gouri Chowdhury, Nipin, Liton, Toman, Belal, Monir, Imtiaz, Emily, Nasrin, Fatiha, Shoshi, Raka, Serian, Pinky, Ruthshi. Local artists Borsho, Bani, Sudha and Suthopa performed folk dance in the event
