Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered ‘proper steps’ against anyone terrorising educational institutions irrespective of their political affiliation.
She gave the instructions in a video conference on Monday with Sylhet Divisional Commissioner and Police Commissioner after the Cabinet meeting.
“Recently there has been a problem at Shahjalal University; I want to know about it from the police commissioner.
“I am instructing you to take action against those creating such problems or terrorising educational institutions irrespective of their political affiliation,” she told the Sylhet police chief.
Two groups of the Awami League’s student wing in Sylhet’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) fought a turf war on Thursday. An outsider, Suman Chandra Das, 22, died after being shot during the clash.
At a media briefing the next day in Dhaka, BCL President Badiuzzaman Shohag said that outsiders, not BCL activist in SUST, were responsible for the clash.
“I have seen that in case of these types of chaos in educational institutes, non-students and outsiders are more involved than the students,” prime ministerSheikh Hasina said during the video conference with the Sylhet administration.
Speaking on the murder of a Rajshahi University teacher on Nov 17, she said these incidents can be ‘controlled’ if the perpetrators can be brought to book immediately.
“We want you to take proper measures in this matter,” the Prime told the Sylhet police chief.
