SM Desk :: At least five including the driver of a police vehicle have been injured in a clash between police and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters in Sylhet.
Police said activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir took out an unscheduled procession from Darga gate area at Saturday noon.
They began throwing hand bombs and bricks at the police when they tried to break up the procession, said Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rahmat Ullah.
Police fired 30 rounds of rubber bullets and from shotguns to disperse the activists.
Rubel Ahmed, 25, the driver of the four-wheeler carrying the policemen, has hit by a bullet during the clash. He has been admitted at Sylhet’s Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
Police say they have been told of four Shibir men being injured.
They arrested one unidentified activist of Jamaat’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and recovered an unexploded hand bomb the site of the clash.
